An estimate, not a quote. Access, prep, scheduling and paint grade move real prices; wallpaper removal, popcorn ceilings and major drywall repairs are quoted separately. Exact quotes are free.

    How the numbers work

    What the range covers

An estimate, not a quote. It is a starting point for planning; your written quote is free.

    What is included

Walls in every room you count, plus ceilings, trim and doors when you tick them. Standard-grade paint and sundries are included; HST is not.

    What moves the price

Access, the amount of prep, scheduling and the paint grade you choose. A visit, or a few photos for small jobs, lets us price these exactly.

    Quoted separately

Wallpaper removal, popcorn ceilings and major drywall repairs are quoted on their own once we have seen them, as separate lines on your written quote.

    Understanding the range

What changes the cost of a repaint

The four things that move the number most, and how they show up on your written quote.

    Preparation decides most of it

A repaint is priced on time and materials, and time is mostly preparation. Two rooms of the same size can take very different amounts of work: one with smooth walls and a colour close to the old one, the other with nail pops, cracked corners, glossy patches and a change from a dark colour to a light one. The calculator assumes average walls; a visit or a few clear photos show what yours need.

    Ceiling height and stairwells

Ceiling height matters more than people expect. Walls above about nine feet need taller ladders or planks, cutting in along a high ceiling line takes longer, and stairwells are slower again because the work has to be set up safely on the steps. Open foyers and two-storey family rooms are planned first for that reason, and each one shows up as its own line on the written quote.

    Trim, doors and ceilings

Trim, doors and ceilings are separate choices. Baseboards, casings and doors take an enamel and careful brushwork, so adding them can change a quote as much as adding another room. Ceilings are usually painted flat white and rolled in one direction. Tick only what you want painted: the range follows your choices, and so does the quote. Closets, stair railings and window sashes are counted the same way.

    Colour changes and paint grade

Colour changes and paint grade also move the number. A deep colour over a pale one, or the reverse, can need a primer coat before at least two finish coats. Zero‑VOC and low-odour paints are available for every room, from kitchens to bedrooms. Your itemized written quote names the product, sheen and colour for each room, so you can compare options line by line before anything is booked.

    Estimate

    Questions about the estimate

How the range is built, and how it becomes a written quote.

Is the calculator range a quote?

No. It is a planning range for an interior repaint, before HST, based on average walls. Your written quote is free and itemized, and it is based on what we see at the visit or in your photos.

Why can my quote be higher or lower than the range?

Preparation, access and colour changes are the main reasons. Smooth walls in a similar colour come in lower; repairs, tall stairwells, wallpaper removal or a strong colour change add time.

    Does the range include paint?

Yes, a standard-grade paint and the sundries are included. If you choose a different product line or sheen, the quote shows it on its own line.

Can I get a quote from photos?

For small jobs, yes. Send a few clear photos of each room in daylight, with the rough size and what you want painted. Larger jobs are measured at a visit.

What is not covered by the calculator?

Exterior painting, kitchen cabinets, wallpaper removal, popcorn ceilings and larger drywall repairs are quoted separately once we have seen them.

Do you charge for the visit?

No. Quotes are free, and the quote you receive is written and itemized by room and surface.
